Author: Lanie Fioretti

My name is Lanie Fioretti and although I am not a classically trained chef or a degreed nutritionist, I have been studying food and nutrition voraciously since the early seventies. After working in public health and private practice for 22 years, I retired my dental hygiene license. I have taught cooking classes at Whole Foods and Central Market, done product development for a bakery in east Texas, catered, and been a personal chef. I usually think of myself as an improvisational cook!

May at Jack Allen’s Kitchen

Posted on May 16, 2013 by Lanie Fioretti

The day started with a plan to hike to Gorman Falls in Colorado Bend, but the rain made us put plan B into motion.  Of course, plan B involved a shopping trip to the Round Rock area with an essential lunch at Jack Allen’s Kitchen. Although I was tempted by the shrimp and grits lunch…

Kale and Carrots

Posted on May 14, 2013 by Lanie Fioretti

After the fabulous rains this past week, things are just growing like crazy.  I took a good look at the kale and found a few harlequin bugs, which I immediately squished.  After having an infestation several years ago, I’m determined to hunt them down and destroy them.  They look very pretty, but will decimate your…
