Author: Lanie Fioretti

My name is Lanie Fioretti and although I am not a classically trained chef or a degreed nutritionist, I have been studying food and nutrition voraciously since the early seventies. After working in public health and private practice for 22 years, I retired my dental hygiene license. I have taught cooking classes at Whole Foods and Central Market, done product development for a bakery in east Texas, catered, and been a personal chef. I usually think of myself as an improvisational cook!

Ham & Cheese Cuban Cristo Croque (Cooking for One)

Posted on May 12, 2013 by Lanie Fioretti

I couldn’t decide what kind of ham and cheese sandwich to make the other day, so I created a Cuban meets Croque Monsieur, and dipped it in egg and fried it in butter (Monte Cristo).  It’s just decadent. Sauteed Radishes and Peas

If you have a lot of radishes and peas, you have to start doing some creative things with them, so it doesn’t get boring.  This is one of a couple recipes I decided on, and I thought it would be good with a Greek spin.  It was a hit, so it’s worth hanging onto. PrintRadish…

Artichokes and Other Garden Goodies

Posted on May 7, 2013September 15, 2016 by Lanie Fioretti

I noticed our first small artichoke today.  We’re hoping it’s one of many.  It’s pretty exciting to be growing one of my favorite vegetables, that’s gotten too expensive to buy on a regular basis.  It reminds me how much I’m saving, when I’m harvesting asparagus spears everyday! We’ve also got great green peas.  I planted…

2013 Trip to Possum Kingdom

Posted on May 5, 2013May 5, 2013 by Lanie Fioretti

It was an interesting weekend to be at the Possum Kingdom Lake, because it’s extremely low, and it’s pretty cool out.  But then we really weren’t planning water sports as part of the trip.  It’s more just some time away with friends, going to Boudreau Herb Farm and Clark Gardens. We stopped at Boudreau’s on…
