Author: Lanie Fioretti

My name is Lanie Fioretti and although I am not a classically trained chef or a degreed nutritionist, I have been studying food and nutrition voraciously since the early seventies. After working in public health and private practice for 22 years, I retired my dental hygiene license. I have taught cooking classes at Whole Foods and Central Market, done product development for a bakery in east Texas, catered, and been a personal chef. I usually think of myself as an improvisational cook!

February Food Adventures in Austin

Posted on February 17, 2015 by Lanie Fioretti

We made an overnight trip to Austin, on Valentine’s Day, and tried some restaurants, new to us.  Our first stop was Fork and Taco on Burnet Rd.  They have a scrumptious variety of unusual tacos, and homemade tortillas.  I had a flank chimichurri and a short rib, Don had a jerk grouper, and a flank. Valentine’s night…

PrintLamb Burgers Ingredients2 TBSP extra virgin olive oil 1 lb ground lamb 2 TBSP finely chopped…

Bare Bones BBQ Gatesville

Posted on February 13, 2015February 13, 2015 by Lanie Fioretti

I got some take-out this week, and it was all that I expected and more.  Ricky and Tana (the owners) have another big hit.  The BBQ is awesome.  I had ribs and moist brisket this time.  Pork country ribs are on the menu, and I’m going to be trying those on my next visit.  You…

Pot Pie

Posted on February 6, 2015 by Lanie Fioretti

This has been on my “make” list for a long time.  The last time I went to Natural Grocers, I picked up Immaculate (brand) refrigerated pie crust.  It’s slightly salty, and tastes a little like there’s cream cheese in it.  It’s the best refrigerated pie crust I’ve tasted, and perfect when you want to convert…
