This was a new restaurant for us, even though it’s been around since 1993. The building dates back to 1904. This is Texas BBQ and chicken fried at its best. Everything is homemade. We started with a basket of fried poppers, onion rings, squash, okra, pickles, and cheese. There were 2 plates of BBQ, one fabulous stuffed potato, and catfish. I’ve tried sweet potato fries at some good restaurants, and I’ve never had what I’d consider to be a great crispy sweet potato fry – these guys got it right, and they are delicious. And for dessert, we had large bowls of cobbler, and because the waitress was so insistent, a small sample of a luscious brownie.
Coupland is typically only open on Friday and Saturday, starting at 5:30. This summer they are open Thursday, also (may only serve BBQ that night). There is a dancehall with great CW music connected to the restaurant. Click here, for all their info.
