Fall Flowers

Posted on October 23, 2011October 27, 2011 by Lanie Fioretti

We just wanted to share some of the plants that have breathed a sigh of relief from the summer and finally started blooming!  Also, there’s a few from the stand of liatris in the pasture.

If there is anyone else obsessed with getting cactus out of your pasture besides me, one of the things I do after I dig one up is to plant winter pea seeds, because they’re so good at bringing nitrogen into the soil.  We also plant winter peas in the big garden as soon as Don tills, to help the soil recover, before we plant in the spring.  This year I’m going to plant some red clover and vetch in the pasture in the hopes of improving the soil even more.
