I’ve started taping “The Chew” (it comes on at noon) and watching when I have time. On Monday they talked about the importance of family meals as a spin off of a recent article in the New York Times. The main points in the article are:
- Children who eat with their families have stronger vocabularies than those who do not.
- They do better in school.
- They are less likely to suffer from obesity.
- Family meals prevent teenage pregnancy.
- They are a bulwark against depression.
- Those who eat chicken around a table with kin tend not to sneak off to the park later to huff paint.
In my family, we had a family meal every night. To me there is something so comforting about mealtime together. For such a simple thing it can make so much of a difference.
On Friday, I watched The Chew with Dot (my precious friend that I cook for), and they did a great sandwich to add to breakfast, or any time, for kids (up to 95 yrs old).
Grilled Chocolate, Banana, Bacon Sandwich
- Good bread slices
- Nutella
- Bananas sliced longways in half
- Cooked bacon strips
- Butter
Assemble the sandwiches. Smear Nutella on one side of both pieces of bread for the sandwich. Lay the halved banana onto the Nutella on one piece, stack a couple bacon strips on top, cover with the Nutella spread side of the other piece.
Heat the pan you’re grilling in. Butter the outside slice of bread and place buttered side down in the pan. Grill until golden. Butter the bare side of the top piece of bread, and flip. Grill until golden and eat!
