First Vegetables of Summer

Posted on May 8, 2012 by Lanie Fioretti

We picked our first squash, banana peppers, and one tomato.  It’s pretty exciting.  We still have a few asparagus spears coming on.  And I ate most of the peppers before I took the picture!  The first tomato is pretty special to us, no matter what size.  When I went to the Farmers’ Market in Downtown Waco this week I came home with some great tomatoes, wild strawberries, and a couple other “must haves.”  The tomatoes were vine ripened in a greenhouse, and picked the day before I bought them.  They were good, but not as good as tomatoes grown outside.  Even if you have to grow a tomato plant in a large pot, it’s worth it.
