Do you ever get the impression that corporate America forgets we are real people that need “real” food? I mean come on, if something happens to “us,” who’s going to support “them?”
When I was in Portland recently, my niece gave me a book to read, Animal Vegetable Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. I’ve finally finished it and am still trying to digest and make use of the information. In my opinion, the first half of the book has a lot of information all of us need to know, about what’s going on with the food supply. A few pages in the second half of the book had information I was looking for, but most of the last half of the book was optional reading for me, with more about Kingsolver’s management of farm and food resources (and lots of stories).
Being interested in all things food, I’ve started looking at more locally produced foods. Of course in the central Texas area, north of Austin, the best restaurant for local ingredients is Megg’s Cafe. Natural Awakenings had a great article about eating local and sticker price verses hidden costs, click here. Prevention had a really good article on GMOs in our food supply, click here for that article.
