This recipe so does not meet the quality standards I have for food. The problem is they’re so decadently good. This is the signature cookie of St. Louis, Missouri, and we were introduced to it a few years ago when we stopped there to visit some friends. If you don’t think this is one of the best cookies you’ve ever had, seek help!
Ingredients
- 1 (8 ox) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), softened
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp butter flavor
- 1 1/2 (18.25 oz) packages yellow cake mix
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Using a mixer, cream together the cream cheese and butter.
- Mix in egg yolk, vanilla, and butter flavor.
- Mix in the dry cake mix just until combined. Now I know this leaves you with a half box of yellow cake mix, but if you buy another package, you can make them again!
- Lay out a piece of plastic wrap turn the dough onto the wrap, bring it together in a ball, wrap it and place it in the fridge overnight. The cookies won’t turn out as good if you don’t do this overnight step.
- Heat oven to 350°. Lightly grease a baking sheet. I usually use a non-stick baking mat or parchment to bake these cookies.
- Roll the dough into 1” balls, then roll in powdered sugar.
- Place 1” apart on the cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10 – 13 minutes. Better when they do not brown.
