January at the Waco Downtown Farmers Market

Posted on January 7, 2013 by Lanie Fioretti

Usually, I get a really early start for the market, but Saturday I got there a little after 10 am.  Even though it was chilly, there were a number of vendors.  I bought broccoli, bok choy, tamales, and dog bones (of course).  The tamale booth is new, and they make their tamales with olive oil instead of lard, and they use grass fed beef.  We tasted the bean and cheese tamales too.  Both were excellent, but decided we could put bean and cheese on the side of beef tamales.

There is a new vendor, Prairie Dell Meat, out of  Salado, that starts next week.  They do smoked meats, nitrate free.  If  I make a trip to Austin, before I go back to market, I’m stopping at their location to shop!
