Killeen Area Restaurants and Market + 1 Waco Restaurant

Posted on September 8, 2011September 8, 2011 by Lanie Fioretti

I took a quick trip to Killeen Wed, and of course I need to tell you about some places.

Cosper’s Country Meat Market, 2300 E. Elms Rd (off WS Young), Killeen (254-634-9070) is a must.  If I’m not going to Hamilton to buy meat, then Cosper’s is the place.  Hamilton will be a post for another day!  Cosper’s specializes in Prime Beef, and it’s really good.  I just have never been disappointed in what I’ve bought.  It’s not inexpensive, but for prime beef, it’s not bad.  In addition, there’s a fruit and vegetable market next to it that’s open on Thurs, Fri, and Sat I believe, but Cosper’s sells all the veges and fruit in their store, when the vegetable market is closed.  I actually got fresh tomatoes today, and they had green tomatoes I was just itching to get, because I have a casserole I make with green tomatoes that’s just yummy, but no time to make it right now.

Of course I had to go to Omart, 714 South Fort Hood Street, Killeen  (254) 519-0888.  It’s my favorite Asian grocery store in this area.  They had Asian eggplant on sale, but once again, I have no time to cook it right now.  I’ll have to go back soon because they were out of a couple things I need.

If you like Puerto Rican food, then you have to go to La Garita, 305 W Rancier Ave
Killeen, (254) 628-2080.  It’s family owned and it’s wonderful.  On Saturdays they have roast pork, until they run out (it hasn’t been on the menu, so ask).

My next favorite is Bella Sera in Copperas Cove.  They have good Italian food.  I usually get a seafood dish.  Sure I’m Italian, and I’ve had the best Italian food you can imagine, but Bella Sera is as good as some of the restaurants I used to go to in Dallas.  I try not to be snobbish about my Italian!

Now the next restaurant is in Waco and I haven’t been to it, but I understand it’s wonderful.  The person who told me about it has pretty discriminating taste, so I trust him (OK, it’s my husband).  It’s El Pollo Regio, 2520 N 18th St, Waco.  They are known for flame grilled chicken.

Thanks for joining me on the blog.  I’m so glad I have someone to tell all this food stuff to!  Please let me know if you hear of new places (markets, restaurants, etc.).
