For creamy, cheesy comfort food, it’s hard to beat Potatoes Gratin. Shorten your prep time by using a food processor for the onions and potatoes. Sure it’s a great side dish, but also a good addition for a special breakfast.
Potatoes Gratin
Ingredients
- 4 russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 large cloves garlic, minced or pressed
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups half and half
- 1 ½ cups shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F
- Note: I sliced potatoes and onion in food processor.
- Alternate layers of the potatoes and onions into bottom of buttered casserole dish. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- In a medium-size saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, add garlic. Mix in the flour, and whisk for one minute. Whisk in half and half, and a little salt. Cook until mixture has thickened. Stir in cheese all at once, and continue stirring until melted, about 30 to 60 seconds. Pour cheese over the potatoes, and cover the dish with foil.
