I’m working on replacing the sugar we use with healthier choices. Date sugar is really intriguing because it has 1/2 the calories of regular sugar, you use less, and it has more nutrients (in theory).
Agave Nectar 1 cup = 960 calories For 1 cup sugar use ¾ cup agave, and reduce liquid by 2 TBSP for each cup you are replacing.
Honey 1 cup = 960 calories Same as for agave (above). Contains antioxidants – buckwheat honey having the most.
Molasses 1 cup = 960 calories For 1 cup sugar use 1 1/3 cup molasses and reduce liquid by 2 TBSP for each cup you are replacing. Dark molasses contains the highest amounts of antioxidants of any sweetener.
Pure Maple Syrup 1 cup = 800 calories For 1 cup sugar use ¾ cup maple syrup and reduce liquid by 2 TBSP for each cup you are replacing.
Coconut sugar 1 cup = 720 calories For 1 cup sugar use 1 cup coconut sugar. Has a nutty flavor and does not taste like coconut. Use it as you would brown sugar.
Date Sugar 1 cup = 480 calories For 1 cup sugar use 2/3 cup date sugar.
