When I first read about this pie, I knew it would be perfect for the hunters at the lodge. It’s sweet and salty goodness at it’s best. But in order for Texas Trash Pie to get eaten, I’d have to change it to Texas Trash Squares! If I cut sweets into squares they can pick up and eat on the run, and it’s delicious, then it’s made the cut for the lodge. Texas Trash Pie is absolutely scrumptious, and unbelievably easy to make.
You can obviously make this in a traditional pie form. That works for me at home, but not at the lodge. So, I’ve given instructions on how to make it into squares. If you want to substitute butterscotch morsels for caramel bits, or a different pretzel, just make sure you use the same measurement.
Ingredients
- Pie dough or 10” pie shell
- 1 stick butter, melted
- 1 (14oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup crushed graham crackers
- 1 cup shredded coconut (I used unsweetened)
- 1 cup pecan pieces
- 1 cup caramel bits
- 1 cup crushed butter snap pretzels
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350.
- Roll pie dough into a rectangle on parchment paper (to fit the baking pan). Trim off any of the extra parchment, leaving about 1” around edges. Fit the dough with parchment into a baking pan (about 9”x10”). Refrigerate, while making the filling.
- In a large bowl, mix melted butter, condensed milk, and vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients. Then add all the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, and combine well.
- Place the mixture into the crust.
- Bake 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown
- Cool completely. Lift parchment with the pie, out of the pan, and cut pie into squares.
