The Business of Food

Posted on June 29, 2014 by Lanie Fioretti

Mark Bittman wrote a good article, recently, in the New York Times on the food industry.    He talks about how it’s impossible for the food companies to do anything that really might improve the health situation in this country, because there’s no money in it. And even though what they are producing will eventually eliminate their consumer base (due to health issues), they are redesigning highly processed foods to make them SEEM healthy.  To read the whole article, click here.

This June, Mother Earth News had an overview of the American Diet, presenting what I thought was a fascinating historical background about the food we eat.  Drawing from archives in the U.S. and Europe, including the National Archives, the author shows why and how our diet evolved.  For the whole article, click here.
