One of the new programs I’m following is Food Hospital from the UK. We get it on the Cooking Channel. The whole premise is using food as medicine. There are a number of conditions that prescription medicine does not effectively treat, and this group has begun treating people by modifying their diets, and occasionally adding a supplement. They are having remarkable success. Some of the conditions they treat include: several types of cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, Crohn’s disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and arthritis.
Another new program (on the Cooking Channel) that I’m fascinated with is Grow Your Own Drugs. I know, it kind of brings a smile to your face, doesn’t it? James Wong actually discusses more remedies on the show than are listed on the site. He gives recipes to use for conditions such as: migraines, dandruff, acne, hangovers, eczema, colds and flu.
The recent Mother Earth Newsletter had an article, Homegrown Medicine, on medicinal herbs. It introduces all aspects, such as: cultivation, types of medications, and precautions.
