It didn’t occur to me that things in Austin might be closed on Memorial Day. One of the main reasons I went was to go to Natural Gardener, and it was closed! So we had to create plan B. Eventually we ended up on Lamar and did the Whole Foods, Central Market circuit. Zinger Hardware moved into the same shopping area as Central Market and it’s always worth a stop. I found a chewy for Dixie (our miniature dachshund) that was a yard long. I got it so I could see what she would do with it, and I have to say I’ve gotten quite a bit of entertainment out of it so far. Whole Foods had an amazing dried bean selection, so of course, I have to try 4 or 5 varieties. Anyway, our biggest find of the day was that Penzey’s Spices has opened in Austin. Their address and info is: 4400 N Lamar Blvd, (512) 452-7771. They have really fabulous spices.
