Day one – It was the first day for turkey hunts at the lodge this spring. The group was small, four guys. The weather for mid April was kind of interesting, cold and rainy, not really ideal for hunting. I started the day making a Carrot Cake, then I moved on to slider sandwiches for a mid-afternoon snack. For dinner, it was the Stuffed Pizza Meatloaf, baked potatoes, Peas de Resistance, baked tomatoes, and garlic bread.
I managed to get some things done to make the second day go a little smoother, because for the following 3 days, I was also making brunch.
Day two – I fixed breakfast tacos for brunch, so that went well. The afternoon snack was pretty low key, leftover meatloaf and Italian sausage, with chips. But I did make Cappuccino Shortbread with a small piece of chocolate melted on it, just for a small bite. We gained an extra person by mid afternoon, but it was easy to adjust dinner. We had Oven Steak with mashed potatoes, Italian Green Beans, and yeast rolls. I am still so amazed at how much everyone loves Oven Steak, and it’s the number one recipe searched on this site!
Nobody’s gotten a turkey yet. I keep hoping we can have tenders before it’s all over. They did shoot one coyote, but I’ve never heard anyone say, “Oooo, that’s good eating.”
