Whenever you’re getting ready to throw something away, think about whether you can use it for something totally different. In gardening, I find lots of interesting things to add to our landscape. Old metal bedsprings make perfect trellises.
An old sink and toilet (from Habitat, ReStore) became planters, because I liked the color. The tank of the toilet sits on an old sewing machine base – no one has ever been able to guess what it is! Don built the bottom of the toilet, into the rock wall. The sink was originally going to be the dog’s outside water bowl, but I decided on a planter instead. The flashes of color add some interest to the yard.
