Author: Lanie Fioretti

My name is Lanie Fioretti and although I am not a classically trained chef or a degreed nutritionist, I have been studying food and nutrition voraciously since the early seventies. After working in public health and private practice for 22 years, I retired my dental hygiene license. I have taught cooking classes at Whole Foods and Central Market, done product development for a bakery in east Texas, catered, and been a personal chef. I usually think of myself as an improvisational cook!

This year, Don cooked Christmas dinner, and I was thrilled.  First he went to the coast and caught the redfish (no joke), the weekend before Christmas. He decided to blacken it, and sear it in butter. We decided on some simple sides.  There’s a little lettuce and arugula in the garden, so we had a…

Christmas Eve in Calvert

Posted on December 25, 2012December 25, 2012 by Lanie Fioretti

I wanted to make a trip to Calvert to the Epps Family Farm, and we had a great day trip on Monday.  Frank and Jane Epps have a fabulous farm where they raise Large Black Hogs, chickens, geese, guinea hens, donkeys, longhorns, blackberries, melons, and vegetables.  Don and I really wanted to see if we…
