Author: Lanie Fioretti

My name is Lanie Fioretti and although I am not a classically trained chef or a degreed nutritionist, I have been studying food and nutrition voraciously since the early seventies. After working in public health and private practice for 22 years, I retired my dental hygiene license. I have taught cooking classes at Whole Foods and Central Market, done product development for a bakery in east Texas, catered, and been a personal chef. I usually think of myself as an improvisational cook!

Simple and delicious, triple mash is great winter comfort food.   Before you say that you don’t like turnips, just try it.  The sweet potatoes and turnips are great for carb smart diets, just leave out the white potato.  All three together are a rustic mash, and a yummy side dish.  We’re having it for…

Roasted Okra

Posted on October 28, 2020October 28, 2020 by Lanie Fioretti

This week we were fortunate to get a large bag of freshly picked okra from our neighbor.  Of course, with some I made seafood gumbo.  But instead of making a couple of my “go-to” recipes, with the rest, I wanted to try something new.  With the larger, but still tender pods, I decided to roast…
