Author: Lanie Fioretti

My name is Lanie Fioretti and although I am not a classically trained chef or a degreed nutritionist, I have been studying food and nutrition voraciously since the early seventies. After working in public health and private practice for 22 years, I retired my dental hygiene license. I have taught cooking classes at Whole Foods and Central Market, done product development for a bakery in east Texas, catered, and been a personal chef. I usually think of myself as an improvisational cook!

Posted on May 26, 2018May 26, 2018 by Lanie Fioretti

Yes, I’m still spring foraging.  Although, I won’t eat all the daylily buds, because the flowers are gorgeous, I eat some of them.  Because sautéed daylily buds are so delicious, I can’t get past this recipe!  They have a very delicate flavor, and just a bit exotic.  The last time I sautéed them, I threw…

Cactus Pickles

Posted on May 25, 2018October 6, 2020 by Lanie Fioretti

It’s spring, so I’m foraging the yard for edibles as usual.  For me, I love having as many delicious nutrient pack edibles as possible, in close proximity to the house.  Although I’ve shared a lot of the recipes I use for cactus (nopales, nopalitos), my new favorite is cactus pickles.  Because good kosher and dill…
