Author: Lanie Fioretti

My name is Lanie Fioretti and although I am not a classically trained chef or a degreed nutritionist, I have been studying food and nutrition voraciously since the early seventies. After working in public health and private practice for 22 years, I retired my dental hygiene license. I have taught cooking classes at Whole Foods and Central Market, done product development for a bakery in east Texas, catered, and been a personal chef. I usually think of myself as an improvisational cook!

Hecho En Waco

Near the Magnolia silos in Waco is a really good new Mexican restaurant, Hecho En Waco.  While you’re there, visit the few little speciality shops, and pie shop, in the same little center. Because I can’t resist shrimp and jalapeño wrapped in bacon, that’s what I ordered. Since I’ve had this same dish at a number of Mexican…

On a weekend trip to the hill country, we discovered some great places to eat and shop.  We spent one night in Burnet, and one night in Kerrville.  For shopping, Llano is a clear winner.  For food, Hill Top Cafe Fredericksburg is outstanding and a must for any trip in this area.  I’m sure any meal…
