Author: Lanie Fioretti

My name is Lanie Fioretti and although I am not a classically trained chef or a degreed nutritionist, I have been studying food and nutrition voraciously since the early seventies. After working in public health and private practice for 22 years, I retired my dental hygiene license. I have taught cooking classes at Whole Foods and Central Market, done product development for a bakery in east Texas, catered, and been a personal chef. I usually think of myself as an improvisational cook!

The Provender Store

Posted on February 10, 2017 by Lanie Fioretti

Go out of your way to enjoy a meal at The Provender Store on Austin Ave in Waco.  It is in a small space, next door to Sergio’s, and does not have signage, except in the windows and on a sidewalk sandwich board (lease restrictions).  Although they’ve been there for 3 years, it is new to…

Posted on January 30, 2017 by Lanie Fioretti

Friday, after completing our research on peach trees, we took a trip to Womack Nursery to pick up the lucky winners.  The varieties we ended up with, after considering chilling hours, peach flavor, and vigor, are Elberta, Majestic, and Galactica.  Don prepared a bed, and fenced it from deer and cows. On the way to Womack,…

Chicken Sausage Soup

Posted on January 23, 2017October 5, 2020 by Lanie Fioretti

Soup is at the top of our menu list for 2 weeks now.  Not only is it an ultimate comfort food, it’s a pretty versatile meal in our house, and never boring.  The Instant Pot that I got for Christmas is working overtime these days!  However, soup is easy to make on the stovetop or…
