Author: Lanie Fioretti

My name is Lanie Fioretti and although I am not a classically trained chef or a degreed nutritionist, I have been studying food and nutrition voraciously since the early seventies. After working in public health and private practice for 22 years, I retired my dental hygiene license. I have taught cooking classes at Whole Foods and Central Market, done product development for a bakery in east Texas, catered, and been a personal chef. I usually think of myself as an improvisational cook!

New Restaurant in Temple

Posted on February 16, 2013 by Lanie Fioretti

We started out Saturday going to the Mayborn Center for the “Day for Women.”  It was and event, I could easily miss next year.  There were a few vendors that were good, but lots of medical type booths.  I really planned the day around going to “93 West” for lunch, because the menu sounds great,…

Getting Plants Ready for Spring and Summer 2013

Posted on February 15, 2013February 15, 2013 by Lanie Fioretti

I decided to plant some small pots of tomato seeds and eggplant seeds, and put them in my nursery area.  For eggplant, there’s two varieties of Italian long purple and one Asian long purple.  For tomatoes, I’m starting Mexican midget, green grape, and Plainsman.  I found Plainsman on line, and it’s a Texas heritage tomato. …
