Author: Lanie Fioretti

My name is Lanie Fioretti and although I am not a classically trained chef or a degreed nutritionist, I have been studying food and nutrition voraciously since the early seventies. After working in public health and private practice for 22 years, I retired my dental hygiene license. I have taught cooking classes at Whole Foods and Central Market, done product development for a bakery in east Texas, catered, and been a personal chef. I usually think of myself as an improvisational cook!

Crispy Oven Fries

Posted on January 31, 2013 by Lanie Fioretti

I have a definite weakness for french fries, so anytime I can get a delicious home version, without deep fat frying, I’m really happy.  The ice water bath and the baking rack make these oven fries amazing. PrintCrispy Oven Fries Total Time: 2 hours Yield: Serves 4 Ingredients4 Yukon gold potatoes, cut in small wedges…

The Food Hospital and Natural Pharmaceuticals

Posted on January 29, 2013 by Lanie Fioretti

One of the new programs I’m following is Food Hospital from the UK.  We get it on the Cooking Channel.  The whole premise is using food as medicine.  There are a number of conditions that prescription medicine does not effectively treat, and this group has begun treating people by modifying their diets, and occasionally adding…
