Author: Lanie Fioretti

My name is Lanie Fioretti and although I am not a classically trained chef or a degreed nutritionist, I have been studying food and nutrition voraciously since the early seventies. After working in public health and private practice for 22 years, I retired my dental hygiene license. I have taught cooking classes at Whole Foods and Central Market, done product development for a bakery in east Texas, catered, and been a personal chef. I usually think of myself as an improvisational cook!

Moroccan Tomato Jam

Posted on August 24, 2012May 12, 2021 by Lanie Fioretti

When I got this recipe from Angela, it had one sentence at the end of it, “Make this now.”  And I did, and it was so worth it.  This is an amazing condiment, good on just about anything including grilled cheese.  I do not have any more fresh tomatoes, so I used organic, whole, canned…

Eat Your Way to Healthcare Savings

Posted on August 20, 2012 by Lanie Fioretti

I was glad to see the article about food and healthcare savings.  Don has joined me in the Omega 3 experiment.  Normally, he’s pretty skeptical about supplements and claims of eating certain things to improve health in some way.  However, he’s also had longstanding, chronic problems with his knee, and tendonitis problems with his finger. …

Cucumber Salad With Avocado

Posted on August 19, 2012August 22, 2016 by Lanie Fioretti

This is an amazing slaw / salad.  It’s another one of Angela’s creations.  I added grated carrot, but mainly for color.  And I used cilantro and basil instead of mint, because I was way out in the country and the grasshoppers have eaten all the mint, so I used what I had.  I suppose some…
